FROM FORCED PROSTITUTION IN LAGOS

Officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos State Police Command have rescued three girls from prostitution they were forced into at Itamaga area of Ikorodu.

The victims are Deborah, aged 12; Bright, aged 13 and Saviour, aged 14 (surnames withheld).

Disclosing this in a statement Friday, January 13, 2023, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said that the girls were rescued on January 8 at about 6am when a patrol team noticed their suspicious movements within the area.

He said that when the girls were questioned, they revealed that they were fleeing the custody of a mistress who brought them from Akwa Ibom State for employment in Lagos, only to be locked in a hotel and starved for days as a means to force them into accepting prostitution.

The mistress was said to have fled and is currently at large.

The PPRO however said that contact had been established with the victims’ families.

He added that the RRS Commander, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, has, in line with the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, transferred the victims to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Command for further investigation.
