Lagos Chairmen, lawmakers task Muslim clerics on religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence

Epe(Lagos State), Sept. 27, 2023(NAN) Local government chairmen and Lagos lawmakers in Epe Divisional Area of Lagos state, have felicitated with the Muslim faithful as they mark the Eid-el-Maulud celebration.
They expressed their delight in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Epe, on Wednesday.
They urged the Muslim clerics to promote, peaceful atmosphere, religious tolerance and coexist peacefully.
Ms Surah Animashaun, Chairman Epe local government, urged the Muslim clerics to learn how to tolerate one another and create a room for peaceful coexistence among themselves and with other religious faithful.
She advised the Muslim faithful to imbibe the preaching of the prophet Mohammed(S.A.W) to guide their lives.
"They should love one another and create a peaceful atmosphere among themselves, no matter their political, religious, and tribal differences.
"We should see ourselves in Epe community as one and tolerate one another, we should shun religious violence and disregard lawlessness in respective of our differences, " she said.
Animashaun advised Muslim clerics to embrace dialogue in settling differences and reject attempts by unpatriotic individuals or groups to incite community unrest which is always counter-productive.
Mr Wale Anomo, Chairman, Ikosi-Ejirin local council development area in Lagos state, has urged Muslims to learn the good deeds of the prophet and emulate his way of life.
Anomo added that the significance of this season is for the Muslims to be in a sober reflection by reflecting on the life, preaching, and virtue of the holy prophet Mohammed(S.A.W).
He urged all the religious leaders to live their lives according to the preaching of the prophet, they should unite themselves and coexist peacefully.
"Muslim religion is not only by praying five times daily salat, but you must also be well behaved and guide your way of life with the holy scripture, " he said.
Similarly, Mr Abiodun Tobun, Member, Lagos House of Assembly, representing Epe Constituency 1, prayed that all the Muslims would celebrate more of this season on the land of the living.
Tobun urged the religious leaders to act according to the dictate of the prophet.
"Our religious leaders should always have a peaceful resolution no matter their differences and live in peace, religious harmony and tolerate one another for community progress, " he said.
He appealed to Muslims to guard against religious intolerance and work hard to promote peaceful coexistence to strengthen the unity among the people of the community.
Mr Syvelster Ogunkelu, Member, representing Epe Constituency 2, urged the Muslims to put the best teachings of the prophet into practice such as kindness and the love of humanity, regardless of faith.
He urged Muslims faithful to spread the gospel of the holy prophet to everyone at home and sundry.
Ogunkelu urged residents to coexist peacefully, tolerate one another, and promote peace, unity, and community progress. (NAN). (www.nannewa.ng).
