Lagos State Partners with Swedish Organizations on Waste-to-Energy Project

The Lagos State Government has announced its readiness to collaborate with Swedish organizations to turn both solid and liquid waste into energy across the metropolis. This initiative aims to harness the high volume of waste generated in Lagos and convert it into a valuable resource for the city.

During a meeting held in Alausa, Barr. Tokunbo Wahab, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, emphasized the state’s commitment to innovative waste management solutions. He stated that the waste-to-energy project aligns with the government’s focus on transforming waste into a productive resource.

“Our resolve from the beginning of this tenure is that managing and deploying solid and liquid waste as a resource is a priority for this government, not just for Lagos but for the benefit of neighboring states as well,” Wahab remarked.

The Commissioner also highlighted the state’s environmental challenges, particularly those related to its coastal geography and the risk of flooding. He said that the waste-to-energy project would play a critical role in cutting the carbon footprint and addressing these environmental issues.
