Native Doctor Shoots Himself While Testing ‘Bulletproof’ Charm
Chaos erupted in Abuja’s Kuchibiyi community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory when a native doctor, Ismail Usman, accidentally shot himself in the stomach while testing the efficacy of a self-proclaimed “bulletproof” charm.
According to local accounts, Usman, known for preparing traditional herbs and charms, attempted to demonstrate the potency of his charm by firing a homemade gun at himself on Thursday. The charm, however, failed, leaving him with severe injuries.
A resident of the area, Samson Ayuba, explained the sequence of events: “Usman is a native doctor who creates concoctions and traditional remedies. On Thursday, he decided to test a bulletproof charm he had made. Unfortunately, the charm failed, and he ended up shooting himself.”
The incident was confirmed by SP Adeh Josephine, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command. She disclosed that Usman was initially rushed to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency care and later transferred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada for more advanced treatment.
Following the incident, police conducted a search of Usman’s residence, where they discovered a homemade firearm and an assortment of charms and traditional items.
The bizarre occurrence has sparked conversations in the community about the dangers of such practices and the risks associated with relying on unverified traditional remedies and charms. Local authorities have urged residents to avoid testing unscientific claims, emphasizing the importance of safety and adherence to the law.
