LAGOS REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO THE SDGs THROUGH STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS

Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule

Today, the momentum toward a sustainable and inclusive future for Lagos State received a major boost as the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule, ably represented the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, at the 2nd Lagos SDG Stakeholders Breakfast Meeting, hosted by the Office of Sustainable Development Goals & Investment (Lagos Global) at the Wheatbaker Hotel, Ikoyi.

With the theme “Accelerate SDG Action Through Strategic Partnerships,” the event served as a vital platform for strengthening multilateral collaboration and renewing our shared vision of a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable Lagos.

In his keynote address, Hon. Sule powerfully reaffirmed the administration's unwavering commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — emphasizing that the Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, remains focused on ensuring that no one is left behind in our developmental journey.

He highlighted the State’s strategic alignment of its development plans with the SDGs, centered on:

• Eradicating poverty

• Driving a green economy

• Transforming every community into a hub of economic and social opportunity

Hon. Sule further pointed to ongoing transformational reforms across critical sectors, including education, transportation, agriculture, healthcare, and technology, which are reshaping lives and setting the stage for long-term impact.

While progress is commendable, he emphasized that collaboration remains the game changer. From policy to practice, he called on development partners, private sector leaders, academic institutions, and technology driven innovators to intensify their contributions in realizing the vision of a Greater Lagos as outlined in the THEMES Plus agenda.

"Together, we can build a Lagos that works for everyone one that is inclusive, innovative, and future ready. Let us stand united to accelerate our journey toward achieving the SDGs and unlocking the full potential of our people and our city," he concluded.

The Stakeholders Breakfast Meeting once again reaffirmed that the power of partnership will continue to drive bold solutions for systemic challenges and position Lagos as a model sub-national entity in SDG implementation.

The journey to a Greater Lagos continues and everyone has a role to play.
